How fast, how long?: It is normal for the heart rate to accelerate after exertion or even after a substantial meal. However the rate increase should be mild(under 100) and should rather quickly return to baseline after several minutes of the exertion. At rest a normal heart rate can be between 55 and 90 with an average of 72 for most people. Have your blood tested and get a treadmill stress test.
