Very possible: It is possible for a fungus to develop after an ingrown toe nail removal, but it also may be due to damage to the nail root or matrix which if the case, may cause hypertrophy and thickening and discoloration of the nail which could appear mycotic of fungal. . To insure a fungus is present, a fungal culture should be performed to determine if a fungal element is present.

Not normal: After the removal of the ingrown toenail there should be no infections. Unless there is only a little irritation, any persistent inflammation or drainage should be treated by the podiatrist who did the procedure.
