A member asked:

I receive the rhogam shot after my d and c. before my surgery they took my blood. do they normally test for antibodies before giving the shot?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Rhogam: They may have tested you, but it really wouldn't even matter if you were negative before the procedure. The idea of Rhogam is to keep your immune system from developing antibodies at times when fetal/baby blood and maternal blood is likely to mix, such as during birth, or in your case, your d;c. It's more preventative, so you would get it even if you were antibody negative prior to the procedure.
