Herniated Disk: Typical process for a herniated disk. Would suggest a Medrol (methylprednisolone) dose pack or NSAID usage. If not better in a few days consider MRI for further evaluation.

Takes a few days: To get better from a back strain. Continue to rest, use heat, Aspirin or ibuprofen. If he is not getting better in a few days, then he can see a doctor for help.
