I'm worried too: You're doing the right thing by getting seen by a specialist. I see that you have never been a tobacco user, and that your main complain is pain rather than a mass. Cancer's unlikely but you're still doing well to see a specialist. Best wishes.

Unfortunate: In your national health system , you have to wait n long line for your turn to see the specialist can't answer with out examination , you need to make sure it is not some thing serious , in-spite of current turmoil in our us health care system , no such wait but is not free

Be Aggressive: Don't be afraid to restate your case to see an oral surgeon asap. Often the squeaky wheel does get the grease. This is one of my main concerns about "obamanationcare" type of medicine. Is it truly free or low cost care if it is not timely care.
