D/c citalopram: Discuss this wish with your prescribing professional. Citalopram is generic Celexa (citalopram) and maximum recommended daily dose is 40mg. I assume you have the 40mg pill. They also have 20 ; 10mg pill. Do not just stop this med cold turkey. I like to decrease the dose in 4-6 week intervals by about 25% but i tend to be very conservative. 30, 20, 15, 10mg and if no sx i would d/c and follow 6-12wks.

Slow taper.: The best way to stop an antidepressant like citalopram is to do so under the guidance of your physician and to do it gradually. Abrupt tapers tend to cause withdrawal symptom and also increase risk of recurrence of depression. Whether discontinuing the medication will cause depression or anxiety to return depends significantly on your history of the illness. Hope this helps. Good luck!
