can h. pylori cause ulcerative colitis?

2 doctor answers
Dr. Leroy Fleischer
35 years experience Internal Medicine
No: Infection by h. Pylori can cause stomach ulcers and if left untreated can cause stomach cancer. It does not involve the colon.

Dr. David Ziring

No: It can't. H pylori infects the stomach. The colon is not near the stomach. But many other infections can trigger ulcerative colitis in a genetically susceptible individual.
