Dr. Donald Hazlett

Most certainly yes!: Solving sleep problems is a common adventure in our society. Over the counter sleep aids are everywhere, with varying success and often with problems of their own. Melatonin seems to be most helpful and side effects low. If that's not helpful you can start with either your primary care provider or a mental health professional. More difficult cases may require sleep apnea or psychiatric consults.

Are there any mental health facilities for elderly with dementia only?

1 doctor answer7 doctors weighed in
Dr. Susan Uhrich
Psychiatry 36 years experience
Dementia only: Is not a mental health problem, but a physical one. Having said that, many dementia patients also have mental health issues such as depression, hallucinations and behavioral problems. I know of no dementia only mental health units, but there are many geriatric units which are quite capable of helping patients with dementia.

It depends on: The problem. In general, a child should have an evaluation by a child and adolescent psychiatrist to rule out illnesses that could require treatment with medication. The psychiatrist may then recommend a psychologist or therapist for the talk/play portion of the treatment.
