Book therapy: There are a variety of books that you may find helpful, and today's medication can alter your thinking so you can function better. If you're offered the opportunity to talk to a competent therapist who knows how to treat ocd, please consider taking advantage of this and learning to reprogram your mind. You wouldn't ask, "how can i escape a burning building without running?" cheers.

OCD without therapy: Agree with previous. Just want to add that there are a lot of very good mental habits and techniques one can learn in therapy that can be used to avoid being in therapy in the future. Sometimes having a pro help you develop a toolbox of options is necessary if you are finding it hard to follow other self-help methods. Therapy is not aimed at making you dependent.
