Duration: A TIA will last on average about 20-30 minutes, is completely reversible in most circumstances, and is a warning of a future stroke. The stroke itself may leave persistent neurological deficits, such as unilateral paralysis, loss of speech, decreased vision, etc., and the bulk of the problem will last for days, weeks, months, years.
