A member asked:

Can you tell me what could cause pain in upper abdomen from coughing?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Musculoskeletal pain: Coughing can cause pain in the upper abdomen usually from usage of the chest and diaphragm muscles that are used during cough. If the area hurts when you twist your chest or abdomen, its likely to be muscular. If however, the pain is worse after eating or associated with nausea if might be due to a gastrointestinal cause. If in the right upper quadrant it could be a gallbladder or liver issue
