Rest, no impact: Generally avoid impact exercise until your pain subsides (typically two weeks); you can continue non-impact exercise such as bike or elliptical machine. Make sure you have proper footwear and recommend new sneakers every 300 miles of running. If pain persists or worsens would get formally evaluated.

Rest and Ice: Try ice, rest, and anti inflammatory meds first. Make sure your shoes are supportive and the right shoes for your foot type. Persistant symptoms may represent a stress fracture. Xrays, and MRI or ct scan can help determine this diagnosis. Good luck.
