Lab tech told me not to have caffeine for entire day before routine lab work...why?

Dehydration: Rarely lab techs find it to hard to draw blood if someone is a little dehydrated ... So for most patients the caffeine is not restricted. I find that a patient like that is fine with extra water an hr before blood draws.

Affects testing: Caffeine may affect some lab tests-for example, it can raise your blood sugar level, leading to false results.

Depends on tests: Depending upon the type of tests, anything that may affect the results- sugar, fluids, certain types of supplements, caffeine, etc. You do not want the tests to be skewed or contaminated and result in false info or masked info.
