Depends on variables: Depending on the level of control achieved by the patient, a long productive life and childbearing is possible. Offspring would have ~4-8% risk of type 1, but could have risks of birth defects or pregnancy related problems, again related to the level of control. A discussion with a geneticist would be helpful as both parents have potential problems when pregnancy outcome is involved.
