Soft diet : The dentist or oral surgeon removing your tooth will give you detailed instructions. Generally stick with a soft diet for a couple of days. No smoking. No rinsing for the first day. Avoid hard crunchy, chewy, spicy hot foods.

Smoking, drinking...: In order to minimize the chance of post op infection and dry socket and delay wound healing, we should avoid smoking, alcohol drinking, poor oral hygiene, food impaction in the extraction area (use the curve syringe to flush the food out), strenuous exercise which may cause bleeding to extraction site. Immediate diet should consist of soft food the first day and return to normal the following day.

Follow directions: You should be getting verbal and written post op directions from your dentist/oral surgeon. If in doubt, ask again. Smoking, alcohol, drinking through a straw, etc. Are no no's. Any meds or products that promote bleeding should also be avoided (aspirin, be sure to inquire about blood thinners, etc.).
