A member asked:

Had ct scan and said anterior abdominal wall wide-mouth hernia which does not contain bowel. what does this mean?

You are lucky: A wide mouth hernia has less of a chance of something like a loop of bowel getting stuck and turning into an emergency. Discuss it with your doctor. Surgery may be indicated.

Large: This means that the hernia, or hole in the abdominal wall, is large, and there is most likely abdominal fat, but not intestines protruding through the hole. This is the reason you can see and/or feel a large lump under the skin. If you want to find out more, look for a general surgeon interested in hernia repair on the americas hernia society website. Hope this helps!
