Herpes simplex: Yes, this can happen. It looks the same as anywhere else on mucous membranes or skin. It begins with small blisters that may rupture and lead to small shallow very tender and painful ulcerations with a grey base and surrounding red edge. This can vary however, and there are other pathogens that will produce lingual lesions (syphilis and gonorrhea are just two). If you are unsure see a doctor.
