Blood tests: Blood tests can be done before the surgery to test for pt, ptt, platelet count and even platelet function. Family history of a bleeding disorder can also be an important clue that may alert your doctor to do extra testing.

Tests: There could be a family history such as rare conditions of hemophilia, history of medications that affect bleeding such as Aspirin and others. Also one may notice easy bleeding of gums or easy skin bruising. Blood tests can also check for bleeding tendency.
