Yes: Sleep deprivation is catabolic, causes cortisol to rise, and can cause muscle loss and fat gain. Insomnia also can also reduce leptin and increase ghrelin. Leptin deficiency increases appetite and produces obesity; ghrelin is a potent stimulator of appetite.
