Almost nonexistant: Hepatitis C virus (HCV) is usually transmitted in high risk situations (direct blood contact like IV drugs (sharing needles), or nasal drugs, reused needles without sterilizing, sexually, tattoos, blood transfusion before June 1992, sharing razors). Being incarcerated has a predisposition to having one of the above high risk factors. Getting it from a mattress is probably not the cause.
