A member asked:

Do you develop drug tolerance to analgesia?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Narcotics, yes: It's easy to develop tolerance to narcotic medications (morphine, demerol, dilaudid, vicodin, etc.) if they are taken for more than a few days. This means that it will take more and more drug to produce the same level of pain relief. Other types of analgesia, or pain relief, do not produce tolerance. These include local anesthetics, tylenol, (acetaminophen) or nsaids such as Ibuprofen or naprosyn.
