Brown phlegm: If you do not smoke you may have the start of an infection. If it worsens and occurs more frequently or is associated with a fever or chills see your doctor or an urgent care. Mucous that is colored may suggest an infection. Most of the time it is a virus and just requires watchful waiting. Drink lots of fluids and eat well. You may want to irrigate the nose with saline 50 cc each side 3-4x/d
