A member asked:

Please tell me, could my pain management doctor refuse to prescribe for me unless i quit smoking?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Hard to say: I'm not able to answer based on limited information, and can't comment on another doctor. If you are referring to getting controlled medications for your pain, such as narcotics, some providers consider patient use of any addictive substances to be a cause of not prescribing pain medications. Smoking cigarettes has been connected to having lower ability to handle pain. Consider quitting!
