Yes,: Stomach upset or discomfort, which is the most common side effect. Taking Aspirin with food may help.

Aspirin: Aspirin can be irritating to the lining of your stomach so it is best to take it with some food. Even milk would be okay.
Dr. Curtis Wong

Aspirin without food: May have a greater risk of causing gastritis if you are very sensitive to that. But there is no real danger of taking an Aspirin on an empty stomach if not done continuously and repeatedly.
Dr. Nestor Del rosario
Addiction Medicine 34 years experience
Yes: Aspirin binds to the surface of the platelet to decrease aggregation and can cause bleeding. The family of meds where it is , decreases one of the prostaglandin production that produces mucous that protects the intestinal lining. It can induce some vasoconstriction and decrease blood flow that sustains oxygenation and nutrient to the lining. Food protects from acid and modifies drug absorption.

A 38-year-old member asked:

Does taking aspirin make my periods last longer?

Dr. Edward Neilsen
Family Medicine 19 years experience
It should not: Although Aspirin can thin the blood, it should not increase the duration of a period. In fact, anti-inflammatory medicines like aspirin, ibuprofen, or Aleve (naproxen) are commonly used to decrease bleeding, as they decrease the inflammatory respons in the uterus, and cause the blood vessels to close off some.
A 35-year-old member asked:

Dr. Pedro Hernandez

7 days: One Aspirin may have some effect in the body for up to 7 days but at least for one day. In pts with higher risk for bleeding or gastritis or peptic ulcers may be prescribed less often than daily if clinically necessary.
A 33-year-old member asked:

How long does it it take for the effects of aspirin to kick in?

Dr. Robert Kwok
Pediatrics 33 years experience
5-12 minutes: A study published in a cardiology (heart) journal found that Aspirin started working (preventing platelets from clumping) after 5 minutes for chewable tablets, and after 12 minutes for tablets swallowed whole. If an adult takes Aspirin for pain or fever, probably more time needs to pass before he notices less pain or lower fever, perhaps 30 minutes.

A 19-year-old member asked:

What will happen when high dose of aspirin is given to mi patients... Mechanism of action ?

Dr. Lev Lubarsky
Cardiology 23 years experience
Anti platelet action: Giving more then 325mg of Aspirin is not recommend in the usa. Aspirin is anti platelets drug that prevents blood clot formation. In mi patients it does that to minimize blood clot within blocked coronary artery. Mostly it is a cholesterol plaque that cracks leading to blood clot formation that further narrows the vessel limiting blood flow to the myocardium.
