A member asked:

Colectomy for cancer postponed due to likely severe cad, cath tomorrow. is it risky for cath/stent/bypass with blood thinners for colon hemorrhage?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Risks increased: Those are both serious medical problems. Most patients with cardiac disease can undergo noncardiac surgery safely provided their cardiac issues are stable and their functional status is good (able to achieve >4 mets without symptoms--the equivalent of carrying 2 bags of grocery briskly and climbing stairs). If having cv symptoms, should expedite a cardiac workup w tests/possible cath first.
