Umbilical hernia?: A small, persistent umbilical hernia may be present. Alternatively, the lump you feel may be of dermatologic origin or from deeper inside (sister mary joseph's nodule). The longevity of your problem supports a benign process--so curtail worrying and get the problem checked for a definitive diagnosis. How big is the "ball" in question? Had a ct scan yet?
