6 month old baby: Why is your baby taking antibiotics? If it for an infection, return to your pediatrician and have the problem re-evaluated. However, at 6 months your baby may be teething which would cause these symptoms. Check with your pediatrician for tips to alleviate the pain and other symptoms from teething.

Persistent fluid: Your doctor needs to actually look at the ear and see if the infection has cleared up or not and whether there is persistent fluid left over after the infection. The infection may have cleared, but fluid can persist and that fluid can hang around for several months. If there is no redness, visible pus, fever and doc thinks infection has cleared, then need to watchfully wait and see if fluid clears.
