Yes: In acute tonsillitis, bleeding is more common with streptococcal ("strep") infection. Antibiotics are the standard treatment. In chronic tonsillitis, bleeding is again more common with strep infections, but more importantly is an indicator that it's probably time to have a tonsillectomy.
