I've had a canker sore on my tongue for over two months on and off, it seems to actually pop up on the left side, then the right..yes, i drink & smoke?

Canker sore: Consult an oral surgeon to find out what's causing your canker sores.

Aphthous stomatitis: Recurrent aphthous stomatitis or canker sores the most common observable lesion by the dentists. The topical anesthetic otc application is recommended. Individual ulcers typically last 7-10 days. Rec.: see your dentist if concerned. Smoking and drinking is not good for your body, but has nothing to do with this condition.

Diet can contribute: Canker sores can be caused by many different things. Although not a direct cause, lifestyle habits may lower your ability to fight stress. Stress can contribute to the ulcers. Another factor is diet. Are you eating a lot of highly acidic foods? Current research even suggest that frequent canker sores can be a symptom of gluten sensitivity. Speak to physician or dentist if this continues.

Canker sores: Any sore that does not heal in 7-10 days, or re-occurs regularly, needs to be checked and possibly biopsied. See an oral surgeon for an examination and diagnosis.
