Melatonin: The time of onset varies. You should take the melatonin at bedtime and sleep in a very dark room, and light uses up the melatonin rapidly.

It is recommended: That you take it about two hours before bedtime. At least. That is what I have found to work best in my practice. Don't take it two hours before bedtime if you are going to be out driving or operating machinery, however.

Melatonin : Is a hormone secreted from the pineal gland, levels of which are decreased in aging. The most common use of melatonin is a sleep agent. The recommended dose for insomnia 0.5-3mg two hours before bedtime for up to several months. Rec.: consult with your pcp for dosage regiment.
