Should tegretol be avoided with cardiac patients?

Depends. : Generally speaking, it can be used safely in most patients with most heart problems. However, there are a few disorders of heart electrical conduction where it might be prudent to consider a different seizure medicine. When you say "cardiac patient" it's not clear what cardiac disorder we're talking about.
