How to relieve pain in pronated flat feet?

Treatment varies: There are many potential causes for pain in flat feet. It's difficult to make specific recommendations. A couple of simple options include use of a good over the counter arch sopport (i.e. Superfeet) and calf muscle stretching. If pain persists, seek advice from an orthopaedic foot and ankle specialist (aofas.Org).

Many Ways: The pronated foot is a complex thing and in order to treat it, you must have a thorough evaluation to determine why you have flat feet. Many times, a properly prescribed custom orthosis is very beneficial. In some cases, surgery may be indicated. Talk this over with a foot and ankle specialist (eg podiatric surgeon or foot/ankle orthopedist) to find out what your options are.

Orthotics: A custom made orthotic is the most conservative approach to relieving pain from flatfoot. Orthotics can correct the alignment of the bones of the foot to help relieve flatfoot pain, however in some cases surgical intervention may be necessary. There are several different approaches surgically. One of the less radical approaches is called a subtalar arthroesis where excessive pronation is limited.
