Can you get diabetes from following a low carb/ low diet? i'm currently on a vlcd and have a family history of diabetes.

Weight issue: Fh of diabetes is not destiny, but predisposition. In most, is associated with overweight. Key factor is keeping lean and close to ideal body wt. Cut out sweets, junk, minimize alcohol, stay vigorously active, watch portion size. Be on a diet you can stay on for the long term.

Not likely: The key is losing weight. If by following a low carb diet you lose weight, it will help you from developing diabetes. If you follow a low carb diet, but eat a lot of fat and gain weight, it will make things worse.
