Depends: Depends on how the herniated disk is bothering you. If symptoms tolerable and improve with time, simple measures (medicine, gentle exercise) will work. More severe symptoms may respond to injections or surgery. If it causes severe weakness or trouble with bladder control, surgery is usually necessary.
