Therapy vs. Meds: A psychologist who specializes in cbt will help you better understand and control your emotional feelings, thus decreasing or eliminating your depression. A psychiatrist may prescribe an anti-depressant medication. Some patients go to both at the same time.

There R many ways...: Out of a forest. Likewise, there are many ways 2 approach depression. Which path do u choose 2 explore 1st? There might be a physical basis for ur depression - like heart or thyroid problems. Ur depression may reflect dissatisfaction w/something in ur life, that u're lonely; that u have big stressors 2 manage; etc. If no medical reason, do u want medication? Therapy 4 new perspectives? New skills?

Severity: If you believe your symptoms are severe enough, which means suicidal thoughts, or thoughts of harming anybody else, see a psychiatrist for a full evaluation, with possible medication. If your symptoms are comparatively benign, see a psychologist.
