Please clarify: You say dad is diagnosed with carcinoma. Cancer may be suspected clinically but requires a biopsy and diagnosis by a pathologist. Has this been done? If so, the type of carcinoma and its extent will guide treatment. Who has the swollen abdominal nodes, you or dad? You write that you have bloody stool on your clinical findings; is the stool itself bloody, or just blood-streaked (common ; harmless)?

Yes it can be: I assume they have already done a biopsy. Next they will try to find the source of this cancer( the primary site). Sometimes, we are unable to locate the primary site. So it is best not to delay treatment for too long. I a ctscan, endoscopy and may be pet scan, do not find the primary, then it is time to proceed with starting chemotherapy for cup(cancer of unknown primary).
