If you are having frequent episodes of symptomatic, bothersome genital herpes (>2 a year), you should consider daily suppressive therapy (acyclovir, valacyclovir, or famciclovir) which has been shown to reduce outbreaks by 80-85%. Usually, stay on for 9 months to 2 years, and then stop and convert back to episodic treatment.
