Rare disorder: Trimethylaminuria, or tmau is a rare genetic disorder (an impaired flavin enzyme called fmao3) that causes buildup of a fishy odor because the byproducts of digestion are not metabolized properly. There is no cure, but symptoms can be controlled by avoiding certain foods that make it worse, taking low doses of antibiotics, and taking activated charcoal or copper chlorphyllin.
