Is there a proven link between breastfeeding and improved lifelong dental health? do formula-fed babies get weaker teeth/thinner enamel? thanks!

Research: In looking at research on the subject, i would think that there is not a correlation between the two. Environment has a lot to do with lifelong dental health, but i would not rule out a link because new research is coming out all the time. Our views 10 years ago may now be totally proven wrong or vice versa, especially when it comes to health and nutrition.

No: No difference that i'm aware of. The advantages to infants from breast milk far outweigh the advantages from formula, but enamel strength is not one of them..

Nutrition : There is no evidence relating tooth enamel formation and breast feeding. Tooth formation is genetic. Remember to start cleaning your babies teeth as soon as they start to erupt.

No direct link: Infants who fall asleep while either breast feeding and/or bottle feeding are both more prone to tooth decay as they don't swallow the last of thy milk or formula and it sits around their teeth all night causing decay. Bottles tend to be worse as the baby does not have to actively suck for liquid to keep dripping into their mouths. Either method used improperly will cause decay.
