A member asked:

Should i be concerned that while taking azithromyacin, my heart rate is 64 rather than my normal 85bpm? it's working for my pneumonia, but i'm worried

Likely ok: Slowing the heart rate would be an unusual side effect for azithromycin. A heart rate of 64 is ok. If you are not feeling lightheaded or dizzy, it's very reasonable to continue the medicine and see what your heart rate does once the course of antibiotics ends.

M.D. follow up/Mgt: If you are being treated as an outpatient for pneumonia, I would suggest finishing the course, but also letting your physician know about your concerns. He may order additional testing such as a 12 lead EKG. If you develop shortness of breath, worsening cough, dizziness for example, this should be reported to your physician right away.
