A member asked:

Beside having hpv is it true that people who have asymmeterical tonils are at risk for developing tonsil cancer?

No, that is not true: Tonsil size or shape has nothing to do with developing tonsilar cancer. Do not believe all this kind of hearsay. It makes no sense at all.

Risks for tonsil ca: The risk factors for tonsil cancer are tobacco, alcohol use, and hpv (although most adults have been exposed to hpv and don't get cancer). One of the indications for having a tonsillectomy as an adult is asymmetric tonsils. It's not the asymmetry that causes the cancer, it's b/c cancer can cause the asymmetry. If you've had it your whole life, it's unlikely to be serious. If concerned, see an ENT doc!
