Tamoxifen (4example): Chemoprevention involves taking a medication to prevent a disease. In my practice, i prescribe tamoxifen and Raloxifene for women at high risk for breast cancer. Studies have shown that this can reduce the chance of developing breast cancer by 40-50%. Of course, there are potential side effects and some risks, too--if you feel you may qualify for this rx, discuss with your doctor.
