Best protection from: The flu is a flu shot. Side effects are usually minimal. I don't know any doctor's who don't want their family members to have flu vaccines.

Vaccinate: The best protection is to immunize with the vaccine. The risks are truly minimal compared with the risk of serious complications from the disease itself. All doctors i know immunize their families. The ones that do not are apparently not knowlegable regarding the risks and benefits. The vaccine is not perfect, but better than taking a chance on never being exposed to someone contagious with flu.

Flu shot: Or isolation in a sterile environment! impractical! the current vaccines are not painful, generally effective for the common flu viruses(of which there are many unfortunately). Most docs that i know take the shot!
