Type: Root planning (one n but self correct won't allow) is the careful scraping (planning)of the root surface below and sometimes above the gum. This is done to remove all accumulations and create a smooth surface which is easier to clean and therefore promotes an environment for healthier tissue response. It is a form of gum treatment. Beyond this is surgical intervention, traditional or laser.

No differance: Root planing and scaling is one of the effective ways to treat gum disease. Of course, this is the most basic procedure performed to treat periodontal disease. Ask your dentist for more info.
