Fracture or bruise: In bone can be very subtle difference. We say bone bruise when we can't identify a fracture line but the bone is swollen, and often this diagnosis made on an MRI when the bone has fluid in it but no true crack can be seen. Stress fracture is a very tiny crack that occurs over time. At times imaging , x-ray or MRI or bone scan changes what we name it but one doesn't just turn into the other.
