Herpes: Cold sores are always considered to be herpes. 75% of americans have been exposed to and have herpes type one. At least 95% of the cold sores are caused by this type of herpes. But, 5% of oral herpes is from herpes type two, which used to be called 'genital herpes'. It is always best to know your herpes status through the blood tests for herpes.
