Can you get a new herpes infection if you already have it in your genitals? ex: randomly developing a cold sore for the first time but already have the infection on the genitals?

People are immune to new infection with the type of HSV they already have. However, if someone has HSV1, they can be infected with HSV2. And vice versa.
