Hygiene school: A dental hygienist has gone to an accredited hygiene school , either a 2 year or 4 year program, and has graduated from the program. A dental technician usually works in a dental laboratory making partials, dentures etc.

Different jobs: Dental hygienist usually does oral hygiene instructions and give you cleanings during your semiannual check ups , while dental technician works at the dental lab , fabricates all kinds of dental appliances like crowns and bridges, dentures and retainers, etc.. Both requires licensing and training to work..
