A member asked:

Can oxycodone have any relationship with hydrocodone?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

They are cousins: And while both have the same opiate nucleus, one has an oxygen radical and the other a hydroxy radical, which makes them chemically different. They have different properties, with oxycodone 50% more potent, more rapidly absorbed and gets to the brain faster, and with fewer side-effects like flushing, itching and GI symptoms than hydrocodone. They are both metabolized into Codeine and morphine.
