No usual: True precocious puberty is a concern that should be discussed with a pediatrician and may result in referral to an endocrinologist. This means the child has started showing signs of secondary sex characteristics before age 9 for boys and 8 for girls. Other wise the usual age for the start of puberty is 9-14 for boys and 8-13 for girls.
